The vision of our Leadership Development Network is to raise up a core of equipped and experienced mentors willing to walk beside the participants in the program. We believe in doing so, they and their local churches will be impacted as they learn how to pour themselves into emerging leaders effectively.

As a potential participant, we ask that you hold off on officially asking someone to become your mentor until a staff member has spoken to you about it.  However, as you begin to think about a person you might ask to become your mentor, we’ve included some descriptions of things to look for in a potential mentor.

What to look for in a potential mentor?

• Chemistry:
You should enjoy this person and feel comfortable in their presence.

• Willingness  to ask the hard questions:
A good mentor should be able to ask the hard questions and challenge your thinking and beliefs.

• Someone who has different strengths than you do
This person should not be a carbon copy of you…in fact we encourage you to look for someone who has very different strengths than you…someone who can help you work on your shadow side.

• Someone who has characteristics you want to emulate.
A good mentor is usually someone who you look up to – who typifies what you hope to be like in the future.

• Preferably someone of the same gender.
In most cases we suggest that the mentor is the same gender as the mentee.

Mentors involved in the Eastern Canada LDN are gathering a few times each year for opportunities for training, encouragement and networking with the other Mentors involved in the program. As a result of participating as a mentor, these leaders will not only play an important role in their mentees' learning, but also personally develop greater capacity to mentor others within their churches and circles of influence.
